PASTOR SIONE & ALEX TILINI

Pastor Sione Tilini was born in Tonga. At the age of 7 his mother led him to Jesus Christ. Pastor Sione came to Hawaii at the age of 15. He began attending New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship, a new church plant in Waimea, under the leadership of Pastor Wayne Cordeiro. Pastor Sione began working for New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship in 1991 in the Childrens’ Church ministry. In 1995 New Hope Christian Fellowship moved to its current location, with Pastor Sione continuing to work in the Childrens’ Ministry. Several years later, Pastor Sione began to work in other areas of ministry: youth, church council, Bible study groups, etc. When Pastor Adrian Bernal became Senior Pastor, Sione began to assist with other ministries: Ushers & Greeters, Sound & A/V, and Childrens’ Church.

 

In 2004 Pastor Sione applied for and became a licensed Foursquare Pastor under Senior Pastor B.J. K’ilimai, and became the Childrens’ Pastor. Pastor Sione also stepped in as an Associate Pastor, leading the home study groups, Children and Youth ministries.

Pastor Sonny Shimaoka became Senior Pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship in 2008, with Pastor Sione continuing as Associate Pastor covering the youth ministry, preaching at second service, and filling in wherever needed. In 2012 Pastor Sione became Co-Pastor with Senior Pastor Shimaoka, taking on more responsibility. In January 2013 Senior Pastor Shimaoka stepped down as Senior Pastor and Pastor Sione became Senior Pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship.

In 2013 New Hope Christian Fellowship planted a new church in Waikoloa, with Co-Pastors Rick and Lori Nagaoka. Senior Pastor Sione and the church council covered, guided and assisted the church plant – both administratively, financially and blessing the church plant with pastors and members felt called to transfer to the new church plant – with Pastor Sione’s blessing. In March 2017 the Waikoloa church plant became chartered and were released from New Hope Christian Fellowship.

 

Sione and Alexandra Tilini met on Mother’s Day in 2022. The both had experienced the loss of a spouse and felt an instant connection. They felt the Lord brought them together and they married in August 2022 with only a few close friends and family members present. Pastor Tilini has six children and fourteen grandchildren. Alex has three children, the youngest of whom is still at home. Alexandra grew up in Arizona on the Navajo Reservation with her parents and two brothers. She first came to Hawaii in 2011 and over the next 9 years has been back and forth to the mainland until finally settling in Waimea in 2019. Currently she works as a nurse in the surgery department at the local hospital. 

 

New Hope Christian Fellowship continues to be blessed under the leadership of Senior Pastor Sione Tilini. Romans 8:28 is his favorite scripture and how he continues to live his life, trusting all things to the Lord.

Church Bookkeeper – Kenny Urbanozo

Kenny Urbanozo is our church bookkeeper. He & his family have been attending New Hope Waimea since 2002, serving in different areas of ministry there. You will often see Kenny at the beginning of each service opening up with greeting and announcements. Wife Sian serves in children’s church. She’s also led Operation Christmas Child for the last few years. Son Arel will be leaving for the University of Alabama at Huntsville soon to study aerospace engineering. Daughter Noelle enjoys dancing, basketball, and horses. Both of the kids serve in the computer room that controls the powerpoint in the sanctuary and the Facebook and Youtube livestreams.
